HBC meets as a Church family every Sunday at 10am in Helensburgh Community Centre, Walker St. Our Sunday service is the central meeting in our community. It is a time where we can focus on God, God’s word and God’s promises to us. It is a time where we are able to encourage one another with news of what God has done for us and how he is changing our lives. It is a time where we are able to pray for one another, those we love and the world around us. And it is time for us to actively express our thanks and gratitude to our wonderful God and saviour. Our services are contemporary, welcoming, interactive and inclusive of all people and we would love to see you there sometime.
Home Groups
Our Sunday service may be the central gathering at HBC, but our Home Groups are what keeps us strong. It may seem cliched but we believe that Church should be about relationships, relationship with God and relationship with one another. And we believe that those relationships should grow with time. Home Groups are the best way for us to grow together. We have a variety of Home Groups running throughout the week that should suit your stage of life and availability. Home Group options:
- Monday – 7.45pm
- Tuesday – 7.30pm
- Thursday – 10.30am (ladies only)
- Thursday – 7.30pm (young adults)
HBC is able to provide essential food and groceries to families that may need a little help. Life throws some unexpected curve balls sometimes which can leave us empty handed. When that time comes it is always good to know that there is a community of people around you that is ready to help.
The Burgh Blitz
One thing the Church has is a lot of man/woman power. HBC has helped many families and community organisations in the 2508 area with essential maintenance and cleaning tasks. We offer this ministry mainly to the elderly or those who are unable to maintain their own household. If you know of someone who could use a hand or if you could use one yourself, let us know so we can offer some assistance.
Every 2nd Tuesday at 6am men gather to talk about their life stories and the issues that are important to them. A $5 cooked breakfast is provided by The Tops Conference Centre.
Men’s Lifekey Courses
Man to Man – This program focuses on the man and his relationships. It is common for men to feel isolated and unsupported, especially when our culture has trained guys that they should be able to keep it all together. Men today need help with hassles and hurts and an opportunity to find encouragement and support from other men. This program explores past and present relationships and examines the effects of family background on the way a man thinks, feels and behaves. The themes covered include family dynamics, handling emotions, dealing with conflict, finding real intimacy, examining addictive behaviour. Participants gain personal insight together with strategies and skills for living life more successfully.
Valiant Man - Developing and maintaining a healthy sexuality is every man’s battle. Valiant Man is about male sexual discipleship. This program with study and devotional guide is designed to fortify and restore the moral and spiritual integrity of men. Valiant Man challenges all men to fight for their own personal, moral and spiritual vitality and help other men fight for theirs.
Compass meets fortnightly for women and enjoys: food, conversation, arts and crafts, and informative speakers. It is a time for women to connect in the busy world. If you are free on Wednesdays between 10am and 12pm come and see for yourself just how much fun and helpful Compass can be.
Impact Women’s Ministry
Impact events are held twice a term to encourage & strengthen the relationships of women in our Church, with regular outreach activities to build into the lives of women in our community.
Womens Lifekeys Courses
Woman to Woman - Every woman carries with her the strengths and weaknesses of her background. She carries the legacy of her past into all her relationships – family, business and church. This program will show participants how to free themselves from the past and focus on the future. It will provide strategies and skills needed to make positive and lasting changes in relationships.
Understanding Your Valiant Man – Many women want to understand the men in their lives. Understanding Your Valiant Man has been developed for women; a companion program to the Valiant Man program which is designed to provide men with an empowering experience of sexual discipleship. This program allows the women to see and understand the journey the men involved in the program are taking.
Friday Night Youth Group
Our Youth Group meets on Friday nights and the odd Saturday. We aim to provide a very safe environment where young people can build strong relationships with each other, with our youth leaders, church families and God.
Youth Band
We have a very talented group of young people in our Church. Their talents reach into many areas, one of which is music. Our Youth Band lead and run our youth services and coordinate everything from worship and prayer to preaching. Even if you are not that musical, there is an opportunity for you to be involved.
Youth Service
Our youth services are a highlight at HBC. Lead entirely by our young people, these services provide a fresh and energetic take on Church and provide an insight into the relevancy of God to young people today.
Youth Lifekeys Course
Search for Intimacy – Sex is a part of life. Managed rightly, it is a profound blessing. Managed poorly, it is a source of pain and distress. People need more than rules about sex; they need a theology of sex that empowers them to live successfully in a sex-crazy environment. This course is directed at the needs of the young singles, the parents trying to raise them and “single again” people who are not so young.
Having children aged 0-4 can make listening in Church quite difficult. We don’t just babysit your preschoolers , we share God’s love with them because you’re never too young to learn.
Sunday School
We are committed to helping our children to experience the love of God, to connect with the Christian community and to understand just how valuable they really are. Throughout the school term we run a Sunday School program during our Sunday Service. Children are invited to participate with their families for the first half of the service, including communion, after which they are cared for by our Sunday School team.
Careforce Lifekeys is not simply another church growth idea. Careforce Lifekeys has as much to do with church ‘wellness’ as it does with reaching into the unbelieving yet wounded community. It’s not just unbelievers that need restoration and strengthening, the church needs it to.
Careforce Lifekeys course are 7 to 10 week programs that are run by trained facilitators. They are run in the context of a small group and focuses largely upon a time of open sharing from the participants.
Lifekeys courses that HBC run include:
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5: 16)
Prayer ministry is where members of the body of Christ assist other members to come into freedom from the sin and sickness in their lives, by going together to Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit. It does takes advantage of the tools of counselling but it never pretends to be counselling.
HBC has aligned itself with Elijah House Ministries and are proud to offer prayer ministry that holds to the foundations of Elijah House Ministry. For your information the basis of Elijah House teaching is provided below.
Basic Biblical Foundation
- It is the power of the cross, through the Holy Spirit and by the truth of God’s Word, that works to bring lasting healing and restoration to the family.
- God’s laws, both natural and spiritual, are absolute and are written into the universe. Laws such as:
- Honour your father and mother Ephesians 6:2-3
- Judge others and you will be judged Matthew 7:1-2
- You reap what you sow Galatians 6:7-8
- The principle of increase Hosea 8:7a
- These laws impact our lives whether or not we believe or understand them, and we reap the consequences when we break them.
The driving force behind the recurring patterns of trouble in our lives start when…
- As small children we respond to hurts in sinful ways
- We nurture seeds of anger, resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness in our hearts
- As adults we forget the incidents that led to the hurt and react to people in ways we don’t understand
Christ’s work is complete, but God is still at work in our lives.
- True freedom requires first recognizing that many of today’s problems have their roots in our sinful responses to yesterday’s wounds.
We are reconciled to God and one another when we…
- Recognise the destructive patterns in our lives
- Forgive those who hurt us, and ourselves
- Repent, resulting in real change
- Confess and seek God’s forgiveness for our sinful responses
