Our Values highlight what we hold dear and what we will not compromise on. So they relate directly to how we conduct ourselves with people and how we approach ministry.
Servant Leadership
- HBC believes that leadership is not a right bestowed upon those in positions of authority but a gift given by God to help his church. Those who are leading are expected to lead as Jesus lead, by serving in humble submission to God, leading people by word and deed. As such the church respects the giftedness of individuals and honours and acknowledges their contribution as a gift from God.
Long term commitment
- Church is a gathering of God’s people called to submission under Christ who are empowered by the Holy Spirit to fulfil the functions of the church. We believe that this can only be accomplished when individuals deliberately commit to one another and work through differences and tough times. A united church should stand the test of time and we seek out the unity that Jesus prayed for His church.
Recognising the significance of every individual
- HBC wishes to create a culture where all people, young and old, male and female, rich or poor, are valued as children of God made in His image. We seek to do this practically by examining how we spend our time, energy and resources.
Team Ministry
- No individual possesses all that a church needs and so we must foster mutual dependence. Individuals working together in their areas of giftedness while being held in mutual accountability to the leadership team and to the congregation is the only way for the body of Christ to function as God intended.
Relationships over programs
- The kingdom of God is concerned with how we as a gathering of relational beings interact with God, each other and the world. As a result, programs are useful for developing particular kinds of relationships and are not a measure of success on their own.
